Jáchymov lies near the border with Germany. The town was founded in 1516 on the ruins of the former settlement of Conradsgrün.

The town hall dates from 1540 to 1544, and the dean's church of St Joachim and St Anne dates from 1540. Svornost Mine dates from 1525. The Radium Palace spa hotel is a neoclassical palace in the Viennese style from 1912, surrounded by a forest park.
